Operations and maintenance division

Entropy of each abandoned system that is not isolated from its environment is gradually increasing. Technology systems are also subject to this general thermodynamic principle as an already installed and commissioned system requires particular care and attention in order to sustain a stable level of condition and functionality. In addition, the everchanging nature of the customer market demand makes the execution of certain modifications and developments inevitable. In the case of a complex system, the interactions between each component of the system must be taken into consideration and paid specific attention to.

This is when our operations and maintenance service come into play as it simplifies the procedure by relieving customers of the need to perform the O&M processes by themselves. In accordance with the relevant technical requirements, it is critical to provide regular maintenance of the equipment whether it means scheduled maintenance or urgent troubleshooting.
Our network operations centre (NOC) was established in Budapest to ensure smooth O&M workflow and management and to provide 24/7 support.

Our resources and competitive advantages

  • Network operations centre (NOC): Our network operations centre is located in Budapest and it is equipped with the latest technology. We provide 24/7 support, and manage instant troubleshooting as well as scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Central technical assistance and specialist support: In both, Budapest and Szentes, locations, our trained colleagues arrange and solve complex telco, energetics, civil works, mechanical and electrical engineering related issues with short response time.
  • O&M centres: We have O&M centres at 6 locations countrywide which empower us to perform complex operations activities in a timely and effective manner throughout Hungary.
  • 4WD off-road service vehicle fleet: Our 4WD off-road service vehicles are equipped with all the equipment and tools necessary for performing O&M activities and troubleshooting. Our vans and trucks fulfil logistics, transport and material handling tasks between our warehouses and the O&M centres.
  • Special instruments, service equipment and customized tools: Apart from average service tools, we apply our self-developed tools and special instruments in our daily activities.
  • IT and telco equipment: Our everyday work is fostered by reliable service notebooks, softwares and cell phones satisfying all safety requirements and resisting even extreme weather conditions. They are handled with personal care and high level of physical protection (e.g., storage in separated safe boxes).
  • Redundancy : In the interest of IT security, the network operations centre and O&M centres are protected by redundant server systems, redundant network access and they are powered by our own subnetwork and uninterruptable power supply (UPS) to ensure continuous data communication and recording and smooth operation.
  • Test laboratory: It is inevitable to present customized solutions and innovations to our customers not only to set them in motion but also to ensure that each element of our services satisfy today’s challenges. In support, our engineers responsible for technical advancement restlessly work on developing and testing new solutions.
  • Training centre: metALCOM also functions as a training centre in order to provide dual training students with first hand telco educational place. Our aim is to transfer our know-how and experience while training our future generation of telecommunication technicians.
  • Central warehouse, material management: Our central warehouse coordinates the inventory management of our O&M centres and arranges restocking and reordering.
  • In some cases, developments facilitating O&M activities make it indispensable to keep direct daily contact with our manufacturers and suppliers in order to maintain the dynamics of offered O&M solutions and grant manufacturers’ support.

Projects

  • O&M of the Intelligent signalling system on the Southern borderline of Hungary: In 2017 Q1-Q3 metALCOM played a major role in the development and implementation of a special security system and since October 2017 we have been responsible for the O&M activities of the system. In close cooperation with the security forces, our network operations and O&M centres manage the daily operation of the elements – physical components, IT infrastructure supplying electronic communication, surveillance and control software – of the 170 km-long Intelligent signalling system to ensure safety.

  • O&M of the monitoring and public alarm system (MoLaRi): metALCOM implemented the integrated monitoring and remote-control system of MoLaRi as an effective protection measure of the Ministry of Interior, Directorate General for Disaster Management against major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances with certain pre-set alarm thresholds. The system is installed between areas of factories that produce or store high volumes of dangerous substances, and their endangered settlements. The system is redundant and based on a data transmission system enabling meteorological and chemical monitoring; and ensures high level of system reliability and availability. At present, we are responsible for the O&M of the entire data transmission system and IT infrastructure of the monitoring and public alarm system and for the provision of 24/7 support.

  • O&M of the Hungarian State Railways’ (MÁV) GSM-R network infrastructure:Since September 2020 metALCOM has been managing the O&M activities of the Hungarian State Railways’ (MÁV) GSM-R network infrastructure and provide 24/7/365 support with the help of our network operations centre and our expert team of engineers.

  • O&M of the Hungarian Football Academy infrastructure: Since November 2019 metALCOM has been providing 24/7 support and O&M– infrastructure, mechanical, electrical and IT related – activities to the complex of the Hungarian Football Academy – with floor area of 5000 m2 – which is the nurturing base of Budapest Honvéd Football Club’s next generation football players.
